Domain Name FAQ's

What is a domain name Registrar?
A domain name Registrar is authorized by ICANN to register and manage domain names. Registrars are responsible for maintaining the information entered into the WhoIs database.

What is DNS?
DNS stands for Domain Name Servers. DNS allows a domain name to resolve to the numeric IP address assigned by HostingDNA. When you move hosting companies, you will need to update your DNS to ensure that the domain name points to the correct website.

Do I own the domain name?
Yes, you are the owner of the domain name. If you move your domain name to another web host, you will still manage your domain name via HostingDNA if you registered it through us. Additionally, we will continue to collect registration fees for your domain name as long as you would like to maintain that name.

Is my domain registration information public?
Yes, the contact and registrant information is public record in the universally available Whois database. Complete and accurate information is required to maintain your domain registration.

How much do you charge to register a domain name?
Rules and pricing information can be found under the Domain page.

I am registering a new domain name. Who is the registrar?
We partner with Tucows/OpenSRS to register domain names.

How long does it take to process a new domain name or to transfer an existing domain name?
Domains take up to 72 hours to process and become activated for your website. If you're transferring a domain name from your old registrar, transfers can take up to 7 days.

Is hosting a domain name the same thing as transferring a domain name?
No, when you open an account with us, it is assumed that you are only opening a hosting account. A hosting account is essentially a rental agreement for space on our servers, to house your website files. Transferring your domain name is only done by specific request. When you transfer your domain name, you are changing the company who is responsible for maintaining the registration information and the domain name renewal.

Can HostingDNA transfer my domain name Registrar to HostingDNA?
Yes, we can help you switch your domain name registration to HostingDNA. Let HostingDNA assist you in your Domain Management
